The Flavourless Pitcher

Steps

  1. Measure the full ounce into the empty jug first, while you can still see exactly what went in.
  2. Add the lemonade and stir properly, for longer than feels necessary. This is the step the dose depends on.
  3. Add the lemon slices and the mint.
  4. Fill four tumblers with ice and pour. Four glasses from this jug, not three and not five.
  5. Tell people what is in it before they drink it.

Why it works

A batch is where dosing goes wrong, because the arithmetic only holds if the pour is even and the glass count is fixed. Doing it with a flavourless spirit makes that harder, not easier: there is nothing in the taste to tell anyone this is not ordinary lemonade. So the ice goes in the glasses rather than the jug, and the glass count is part of the recipe rather than a suggestion.
